Prepared by Richard Werner, Flotilla 22-05 Oyster Bay, NY

New Member Uniform Items
Although you may have seen several different types of uniforms while attending flotilla meetings and alike, the "Tropical Blue" uniform is the prescribed uniform for most meetings, public affairs events and public education classes. It may be the only uniform you will wear as an Auxiliarist.

The following items are part of the Tropical Blue uniform:
Light Blue short sleeves shirt w/ Epaulets, about $12
Blue "dress" trousers, about $32
Auxiliary Web Belt & Buckle, $4.75
Garrison Cap, $5.25
Shoulder Boards $22,
Plastic Name Tag, $7
Garrison Cap Device, $6
White V-Neck T-Shirt (must be V-neck)
Black Shoes
Black Socks
In total your first uniform should cost about $90 plus the cost of black dress shoes if required.

Where to buy your Tropical Blue Uniform:
Most items can be ordered through the Uniform Distribution Center (UDC). The UDC provides uniforms and items to active duty personnel as well as to the Auxiliary. Other items are ordered through a District Store.

Order your dress slacks, Tropical Blue shirt, Web belt & buckle, Garrison Cap & Dress shoes (if desired) from the UDC at UDC.
Order your Garrison Cap Device, Shoulder Boards and Plastic Name tag at Store

Clothing items can also be acquired by visiting many military installations or by visiting the UDC near Cape May, NJ or at the Coast Guard Academy Uniform shop. However, some of these locations have unusually short business hours so you may want to call ahead and make sure they are open. The benefit is you can try things on before you buy them.

Special Notes:
1. The Garrison Cap should be ordered about ½ size larger than your hat size. A good way to gauge your hat size is to visit a sports store like Sports Authority and try on a fitted baseball cap. (i.e. if you wear a size 7 baseball cap order a 7 ½ Garrison).
2. Slacks typically run 1 or 2 sizes smaller than blue jeans you may wear. Order larger.
3. Shirt sizes generally run 1 size smaller than your actual dress shirt size. Order larger.

If you have any questions regarding the above please do not hesitate to ask your FSO-PS.
